SPACE at the Geneva Challenge International Swim Meet

News

The Geneva Challenge International swim meet has been a successful date in the Scottish Swimming diary for several years, allowing the up-and-coming talented Youth Squad swimmers to test their metal against some top International competitors including Olympians and World Championship medallists. Many of Scotland’s current Commonwealth and Olympic swimmers have competed there and gone on to great things on the European and World stage.

This year saw 20 Youth Squad athletes head to Switzerland for 3 days of competition. These 14-18 year old swimmers not only enjoyed top competition but a chance to access the full complement of support services via Scottish Institute of Sport staff. Having the opportunity to grow their knowledge in the roles of physiotherapy, sports psychology, physiology, sports analysis and performance lifestyle planning will help them as they progress towards the Senior Squads and ultimately Commonwealth, World and Olympic qualification.

Fiona was there serving as Physiotherapist to the squad. Her role saw her advising on pre-pool routine, warm up and pre competition physical preparation in addition to treating injury. She also worked with coaching staff to feed back on particular issues surrounding these and received excellent feedback. She very much enjoyed working with the coaches and other support team members and furthered her swimming based knowledge. So don’t hesitate to come in to SPACE with any swimming related injury. She will do her best to get you back in the pool as soon as possible and hopefully even better than you were before!
